Xbox at E3 2019 – In Brief

Articles gamingnews Jaz news Slider

Xbox were very proud to say they had the biggest showcase of games this year with 60 games being at least mentioned. I’ve linked the live stream here, but read on for my personal highlights.

Yep, there were A LOT of games. There was a bunch of stuff we were reminded that was coming, like Dying Light 2 (“Spring 2020”), Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Feb 11, 2020), and Gears 5.

There was a small glimpse at some really cool indie games, including 12 Minutes, “an interactive thriller about a man trapped in a time loop.” And probably the game I’m most looking forward to now, Spiritfarer.

Oh, and a bunch of stuff is getting remastered/remade. Did you ever want Age of Empires II in 4K? Well, now you can. Too young to remember Battletoads? Yeah, so am I. Ooh, and Microsoft Flight Simulator actually looks really pretty!

A couple of my fellow Geeks are pretty excited for a new horror game by the creators of Layers of Fear. Based on the mythos of the Blair Witch comes, Blair Witch. I … I don’t quite want to play this. I might watch from the corner of the room… facing the wall.

But nothing prepared me for Keanu Reeves. That’s right, Keanu Reeves made an appearance right at the end of the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer (which has a release date of April 16th next year, by the way). He then made his way on stage and people cheered at everything he said. I love Keanu Reeves.

Project Scarlett and Xbox Game Pass for PC

Xbox’s new console! Four times more powerful than the Xbox One X, can play games up to 120 frames per second in 8K with ray tracing, an SSD and all that.

They plan to release it next “holiday season” in 2020, alongside Project xCloud, Xbox’s answer to Stadia. And it’s a pretty great answer too, actually.

Xbox Game Pass for PC was announced and will be the exact same price as Stadia ($9.99USD a month) and you’ve got the extra option of $14.99 a month for Game Pass on both PC and console as well Xbox Live Gold.

If I was going to buy either this or Stadia I would go Xbox Game Pass for PC, as it will not only have a large selection of big games that are guaranteed to be available on the day they launch, but they will have all the Xbox exclusives I’ve never played because I’ve only ever owned a PlayStation.

There was quite a lot more that went on, like LEGO is putting all nine Star Wars films into a single game, Forza Horizon 4 is getting a LEGO expansion with LEGO cars and LEGO tracks (YES PLEASE!) and Mojang is releasing a 4 player local and online co-op dungeon crawler called Minecraft Dungeons.

We also got a trailer for that colab between FromSoftware and Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin. I’m super intrigued, and a little creeped out.

Which games are you most looking forward to? If you don’t have an Xbox do you think you’d go for the Game Pass for PC?
