Fullmetal Alchemist gets the live action treatment!

Rumour has it that Arakawa Hiromu’s popular manga series Fullmetal Alchemist will be reborn as a live action movie, set to be released mid-2017. The manga series was serialised from 2001 to 2010, and was adapted into two anime series, the latter of which has been praised as one of the best anime of all time. Seven years later, the instant classic will grace us with its presence once again.

Not much has been confirmed, but it is said that Japanese actor, singer and voice actor Yamada Ryosuke will be playing the lead role of Edward Elric. Yamada is currently a member in two Japanese boy bands – Hey! Say! JUMP and NYC; and has also starred as the protagonist of the recent live action movie adaptation of the popular shonen manga series Assassination Classroom.

As a fan of both the manga series and Brotherhood (the more recent anime adaptation), I’m kinda nervous to see how a live action movie will do the brilliant work of Arakawa justice. We all know that there are live action adaptations which were absolute stink bombs, (*cough*Dragon Ball Evolution*cough* *cough*Attack on Titan*ahem*) but there are a few which have pleasantly surprised us as well (*winks at Rurouni Kenshin*).  Either way, I’m excited to see who is casted as the 7-foot-3-inch-tall, incredibly buff and sparkly Alex Louis Armstrong.
