The Pretty Much Weekly is back after a bit of a hiatus. We have been busy with Auckland Armageddon and are slowly pumping out some awesome content that we shot over the weekend, including the first episode of 2019’s Courtney’s Cosplay Crushes!! (Or season 2, as I like to call it)
Check out our Facebook page every Monday evening for a new episode! But now for this week’s news, and quite a bit has happened!!
China bans kids from gaming after 10pm
Not only that, everyone under the age of 18 are legally limited to 90 minutes of gaming a day (3 hours on weekends). And they are completely restricted from video games between 10pm and 8am. There will also be monthly caps on microtransactions.
This new law, implemented on Tuesday, is supposed to help with problems like game addiction, bad eyesight and “poor academic performance across a broad swath of society.”
In order to help oversee all this, everyone will be required to sign up to online gaming services with their real name.
Hearthstone player is the first woman to win at Blizzcon in the history of Blizzcon
Blizzard (and Hearthstone) have been in the news a lot recently, and not for very good reasons. But this week history was made as Xiaomeng “VKLiooon” Li won the finals 3-0 in a best-of-five match.
Not only is she the first woman to win a title at Blizzcon, she is the first woman to win an official Hearthstone tournament! Listen to her amazing acceptance speech!
Well done VKLiooon!!! May your victory inspire a legion of female esport gamers!
Robert Patterson is learning Brazilian jiu-jitsu
Robert Patterson is getting in some martial arts training for his role as Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming tale of the dark knight. And not just from anybody either, but from Rigan Machado, the guy who trained Keanu Reeves for John Wick.
If the choreography from John Wick is anything to go by, we could expect some exciting fight scenes! If the casting is going to let you down, at least the action might make it worth a watch.
Horizon Zero Dawn might be getting a sequel!
As one keen-eyed friend of Pretty Much Geeks noted in our Facebook community group, Guerrilla Games is looking at hiring some staff, including a “Technical Vegetation Artist” with the description “we have four teams dedicated to creating the stunning environments of Horizon.”
Um, sequel definitely confirmed methinks!! Horizon Zero Dawn is one of my all-time favourite games, and if you haven’t checked it out yet it’s pretty cheap and DEFINITELY worth a look.
In other news, Guerrilla Games boss Hermen Hulst is now the head of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios. This means he will oversee the work of 15 other studios including Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, and Insomniac.
